Chettinad

Project Detail

The Chettinad Palace, a majestic 19th-century residence in Chennai, was restored to its opulent glory, showcasing the Chettiar community’s architectural grandeur. Its Burmese teak columns, Athangudi tile floors, and ornate lime plaster friezes, emblematic of Chettinad’s global trade legacy, were meticulously revived. I led defect mapping, documentation, and site supervision, employing lime-based stabilization and natural pigments to restore intricate stucco and woodwork. From 2021–2024, working with Jeernodhar Conservators, we preserved the palace’s cultural narrative, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern resilience. This project, compliant with ASI guidelines, transformed the palace into a living testament to Chettinad’s heritage, inviting residents to reconnect with its storied past.
