Anderson Cenotaph

Project Detail

The Anderson Cenotaph at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chennai, a historic colonial monument, was restored from 2021–2024, addressing unique challenges from tree trunks dislodging pillars and walls. We preserved the trees, using preventive interventions like stitching with SS pins and stone, lime pointing, and piano wire tying to strengthen the structure with inspirations taken from Angakor Watts restoration. Lime plastering, stone adjustments, and nameplate restoration revived its elegance, while glass roofs I designed protected it from weathering. Red laterite block pathways enhanced accessibility. I conducted defect mapping, created drawings, oversaw execution, and prepared detailed project reports
